Lithuanian company allocates €4 million to Ukraine to strengthen energy sector
Lithuania's Ignitis Group has contributed EUR 4 million to the Energy Support Fund for Ukraine. The funds will be used to purchase equipment to create 120 MW of capacity to restore Ukraine's energy infrastructure, the company's press service reports.
The new capacity will provide electricity to about 420,000 households, which is especially important in light of the upcoming cold weather and ongoing Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy facilities.
Darius Maikštėnas, CEO of Ignitis Group, emphasized that the assistance will help restore key functions of Ukraine's energy system, ensuring the vital needs of citizens.
The Energy Support Fund for Ukraine was established to provide financial assistance in restoring the country's critical energy infrastructure. It is managed by the Energy Community Secretariat in cooperation with the European Commission, other governments, and international organizations. The allocation of funds from Ignitis Group was officially approved on October 8 after signing an agreement with the Secretariat.
Due to the ongoing hostilities, details about the facilities and regions that will receive assistance are not disclosed.
Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Ignitis Group has been actively supporting Ukraine. In particular, several batches of transformers, generators, and other equipment have been transferred to restore the power grid.
