Lithuania urges EU to expedite aid for Ukraine without Hungary's approval
Since Hungary is blocking the European Union's initiative to provide Ukraine with a 50 billion euro aid package, Lithuania has urged the bloc to find a solution without Budapest to avoid a social crisis in Ukraine, says the Minister of Social Protection and Labour of Lithuania, Monika Navickienė.
"If the blocked financial support is not received by March, Ukraine will no longer be able to continue providing social financing. This includes not only individual assistance but also pensions and services essential to Ukrainians who are increasingly suffering from the war," she stated.
50 billion euros for Ukraine
Regarding the 50 billion euros for Ukraine, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban refuses to provide military assistance to Ukraine after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion. He also continues to maintain partnership relations with Moscow despite its aggression.
Hungary has repeatedly used its veto power in the European Union when issues related to aid for Ukraine were under consideration.
Specifically, Orban recently blocked an initiative that envisages 50 billion euros for Ukraine. The Financial Times, citing sources, reported that the European Commission is ready to compromise on certain demands of Hungary to secure the allocation of 50 billion euros to Ukraine.
