Lithuania announces robust military aid package for Ukraine
Lithuania will provide Ukraine with a "robust" military aid package in August, which will include, among other things, short-range air defense systems, armored personnel carriers, and anti-drone weapons, according to the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense.
"Lithuania will soon hand over to Ukraine the critically needed short-range air defense systems as a contribution to the German, US and French-led Air and Missile Defense Capability Coalition, Lithuania is a part of. We will also transfer more equipment, systems, and weapons needed on the battlefield on a daily basis. Our assistance is an investment in our own security,” said the Minister of National Defence Laurynas Kasčiūnas.
The new package will include:
- 14 M113 armored personnel carriers,
- short-range air defense systems with missiles,
- drone jamming systems,
- all-terrain vehicles with spare parts
- cargo trailers;
- 20-tonne telescopic loaders,
- wheel loaders,
- guns,
- ammunition,
- smoke munitions.
It is noted that during 2024, at Ukraine's request, Lithuania transferred, in particular, 155 mm ammunition, M577 and M113 armored personnel vehicles, anti-drone systems, Swedish Carl Gustaf anti-tank grenade launchers, RISE-1 remote detonation systems, a disassembled L-39ZA Albatros training and combat aircraft, generators, and other equipment.
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Lithuania has provided Ukraine with military aid worth $641 million.
Lithuania's assistance to Ukraine
It should be noted that Lithuania is one of Ukraine's main allies and has been supporting Kyiv since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion.
Vilnius provides not only financial and humanitarian aid, but also military assistance.
For example, in June, Lithuania handed over 14 M113 armored personnel carriers to Ukraine as part of a coalition to help with demining.
In April, Lithuania handed over M577 armored personnel carriers, air defense equipment, ammunition, and other military equipment and ammunition.
