What can indicate a dangerous disease

Doctors advise paying attention to pillows and bedding. If a person wakes up in the morning and realizes that they had heavy sweating at night, it's not something to ignore.

Of course, this could indicate that it's warm at home or the blanket is too hot. However, if a person consistently wakes up wet and their pillow remains damp, it's worth consulting a general practitioner.

"Most people sweat at night. You should consult a general practitioner if you regularly wake up with wet sheets. Night sweats occur when you sweat so much that your nightclothes and bedding become thoroughly wet, even if it's cool where you sleep," doctors explain.

Severe night sweats can indicate infectious diseases and even cancer.

Additionally, in women, this problem can arise due to menopause.

Which types of cancer can cause excessive sweating:

  • leukemia
  • bone cancer
  • Hodgkin's lymphoma
  • prostate cancer
  • kidney cancer
  • non-Hodgkin's lymphoma
  • thyroid cancer.

According to experts, patients with leukemia most often notice wet pillows and bedding. A survey was conducted, according to which 31% of individuals with this type of oncology experienced night sweats. Therefore, self-medication should be avoided; only a doctor can make a diagnosis, but regular examinations are necessary for this.

What is leukemia

Leukemia is a blood cancer that occurs when the bone marrow produces abnormal leukocytes instead of healthy blood cells. These abnormal cells do not function properly and multiply faster than normal cells, displacing them.

There are several types of leukemia:

  • acute - develops quickly and requires immediate treatment
  • chronic - develops more slowly and may not have symptoms for some time
  • myeloid - affects cells that become erythrocytes, thrombocytes, and some leukocytes
  • lymphoid - affects cells that become lymphocytes.

Symptoms of leukemia:

  • fatigue, weakness
  • pallor and weight loss
  • fever and night sweats
  • bruising and bleeding
  • bone pain
  • enlarged lymph nodes, spleen, or liver
  • frequent infections.
