Washington is considering several pressure scenarios on Tehran, from limited strikes on military facilities to a broader campaign with potential political consequences for Iran’s leadership, according to The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal.

Limited strike scenario

US President Donald Trump is considering an initial limited military operation against Iran, involving a series of targeted strikes on selected military or state facilities aimed at pressuring Tehran to accept terms related to a nuclear deal.

According to sources, such a move could be implemented within days. If Iran refuses to halt uranium enrichment, the administration is considering shifting toward a broader campaign targeting regime infrastructure. No final decision has been made.

Military buildup and diplomacy

Amid the discussions, the Pentagon is reinforcing its presence in the Middle East. Additional forces are being deployed, including the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford, alongside advanced fighter jets and air defence systems.

At the same time, contacts with the Iranian side continue. Washington is demanding an end to nuclear development, limits on the missile program, and a review of support for armed groups in the region, while Iran rejects broad conditions and maintains it does not seek nuclear weapons.

Trump indicated that a decision timeline has been set, saying the United States will either reach a deal or ensure one is achieved.

Risks of escalation

US and international experts warn that even a limited strike could trigger Iranian retaliation and escalate into a wider regional conflict.

The White House says further steps will depend on Iran’s response and the progress of negotiations.

Washington is working through multiple response options to Iran’s missile program, combining diplomatic pressure with preparations for alternative measures. If talks fail, the US may consider supporting Israeli military action against Iran, with final decisions dependent on developments on the ground.

Trump has also discussed possible strike timelines, noting that a decision could be implemented as soon as the coming weekend depending on Tehran’s reaction.
