The Russian Federation can assemble a sufficient contingent within a week or three for a renewed advance into the territory of the Chernihiv region, says Viacheslav Chaus, the Head of the Chernihiv Regional State Administration.

"Today, Russia is capable of very quickly, within two to three weeks, assembling a contingent sufficient for a renewed advance into the territory of the region. They are capable of doing it quickly, but whether they will or not depends, in particular, on how much we work in terms of fortification growth," notes Chaus.

He has emphasized that the Russian military monitors Ukraine's actions and the defensive processes of its military.

"They (Russian military - Ed.) see everything, they fly where they can, someone goes somewhere, we don't rule that out. They understand the situation. The fortification of 2023 compared to that of 2022 is a completely different level. We will continue to strengthen this aspect. The more we do this, the less likely it is for the enemy to make a repeat incursion into the territory of the Chernihiv region," says the Head of the Regional State Administration.

Chernihiv region

Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, almost the entire region was captured by the occupying forces of the aggressor country. Despite this, Chernihiv, Nizhyn, Pryluky, and a few other cities defended themselves and were not occupied but were subjected to Russian shelling.

On April 3 of the previous year, a significant part of the region, up to Chernihiv, was liberated from the occupiers, and by April 6, the invaders had left the region.
