Lecornu on Zelenskyy's victory plan: Time to address deployment of forces to Ukraine
France’s Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu commented on President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's victory plan, emphasizing the importance of discussing the deployment of non-nuclear deterrent forces in Ukraine, citing TF1.
“It’s time to address the issue of conventional deterrence, which will help prevent new Russian aggression,” Lecornu said.
The French minister believes this step is part of a “political path” that will require long-term support for Ukraine.
“Zelenskyy's victory plan marks the beginning of the political responsibility we must assume in helping Ukraine in the long term,” Lecornu added.
He stressed the importance of deterrence as a means to counter potential future threats from Russia.
Lecornu also praised certain aspects of the Ukrainian president’s plan, calling them “interesting.”
“This matter deserves a thorough examination,” he said, noting that Kyiv has recently shifted towards “military-political rhetoric.”
According to Lecornu, Ukraine is showing readiness for political action, although “it will one day speak with Russia again.”
One of the key points in Zelenskyy's plan is the return of all territories occupied by Russia.
“The challenge now is to accept a new balance of power,” Lecornu concluded.
Victory plan
During his visit to Brussels on October 17, Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented Ukraine's victory plan to EU leaders.
This plan, previously introduced in the Verkhovna Rada, consists of five public points and three secret annexes. Among the key initiatives is Ukraine’s invitation to join NATO.
The president said that some countries not providing sufficient assistance to Ukraine will not be given access to the details of the secret annexes.
