Lawyers call for audit of Ukraine's National Anti-Corruption Bureau by domestic auditors

A full audit of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) is necessary, as the commission of foreign experts has not even partially reported on its realization, says the lawyer Oleh Shram.
The audit was promised to be completed by January, with the results to be presented in February. Yet, it remains unclear whether any review took place at all.
"Government and Verkhovna Rada, take the initiative into your own hands, show determination, amend the law. Appoint auditors from among our citizens who, excuse me, would not even sit in the same field with grant-funded organizations and their representatives. Conduct a full audit covering the entire period of this 'office' - NABU - from its very first day of existence," he stated.
In September 2024, the Cabinet of Ministers appointed a commission of foreign experts to conduct an external independent evaluation of NABU. Only on November 18, this commission convened for the first time - over nine years after the Bureau was established.
The commission decided to limit the audit to the period from the appointment of the current Bureau director (March 6, 2023) to November 18, 2024. Out of NABU’s nine years of existence, only the most recent months were set to be reviewed to avoid any acknowledgment of corruption, inefficiency, or unlawful actions by the Bureau’s leadership.
Lawyers have demanded an independent assessment of NABU's work covering its entire operational period.
