Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže called for increased pressure on Russia to stop the war, responding to today's large-scale attacks on Kyiv and Ukraine's energy infrastructure.

"Russia delivers terror, war, death, and destruction, while the world marks Christmas in peace," Braže said.

She emphasized that the Kremlin's brutality, "targeting residential areas and energy infrastructure," is resulting in civilian injuries and deaths, and everyone can see it.

"More pressure on Russia is needed to stop this," the Latvian foreign minister concluded.

Russia's large-scale attack on Ukraine

Overnight and into the morning of December 27, Russian forces launched a coordinated assault on Ukraine, deploying drones and various types of missiles.

The Ministry of Energy reported that the strikes hit power generation, transmission, and distribution facilities in Kyiv and the Kyiv region. The attacks caused significant damage to substations, overhead power lines, and several generation sites.

It was also reported today that Russian forces targeted gas infrastructure and the Naftogaz thermal power plant with Shahed drones.

The main target of Russia's attack was Kyiv and the Kyiv region. In the capital, damage was recorded in seven districts. For more details on Russia's double combined strike on Kyiv, read RBC-Ukraine's report.
