Latvia transfers over 600 vehicles confiscated from drunk drivers to Ukraine in nearly a year
Latvia has handed over 612 vehicles confiscated from drunk drivers to Ukraine. The total value of the assistance is approximately 2.25 million euros, Delfi reports.
At the beginning of February this year, the Latvian Seimas unanimously adopted amendments to the Law on Support for the Ukrainian Civilian Population on an urgent basis. These amendments allowed the transfer of vehicles that had come into the possession of the Latvian state to Ukraine.
The list included vehicles confiscated from drivers caught driving under the influence of alcohol.
Since the amendments to the law came into effect, the government has made several decisions regarding the transfer of confiscated vehicles to Ukraine.
Vehicles for Ukraine
Latvia had already sent vehicles to Ukraine that had been confiscated from drivers caught under the influence of alcohol. At that time, Riga transferred over 270 such vehicles, with a total value estimated at nearly 1 million euros as of mid-December 2023.
