The Latvian Cabinet of Ministers has decided to transfer 31 more vehicles to Ukraine, which were previously confiscated from drunk drivers, LSM informs.

It is noted that after the vehicles are confiscated, they belong to the Latvian state, which has the right to transfer them to Ukraine free of charge.

The total value of the confiscated vehicles is 98,755 euros.

The vehicles will be handed over to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard, the administration of the Bohodukhiv district of the Kharkiv region, and the Sumy Regional Children's Clinical Hospital.

Some of the vehicles will be transferred to:

  • The National Police of Ukraine;
  • Kramatorsk City Military Administration;
  • Kramatorsk City Council;
  • The National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery named after M. M. Amosov;
  • Zolochiv Village Council;
  • Arbuzynka Settlement Council;
  • Sokilnyky Village Council;
  • Oster Village Council.

The program for the transfer of confiscated vehicles to Ukraine has been in place since March 10, 2023. During this time, Ukraine has already received 676 vehicles, which are used for both military and civilian purposes.

Transfer of confiscated vehicles to Ukraine

In February 2023, the Latvian Seimas unanimously approved amendments to the law on supporting the civilian population of Ukraine, which allow for the free transfer of vehicles confiscated by the state to the ownership of the Ukrainian government.

This provided an opportunity to transfer to Ukraine those vehicles that had been confiscated in Latvia from drivers caught driving under the influence of alcohol.

In addition, the Latvian Seimas allowed the transfer of all movable property, including vehicles, owned by the parliament, to Ukraine.
