Latvia increases training of Ukrainian military
In 2023, the volume of training of Ukrainian military personnel with the participation of Latvia more than quadrupled, according to the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
Latvia trains Ukrainian soldiers in the following areas:
- basic general military training;
- officer-sergeant, sapper, rifleman, and other leadership training.
During a meeting of the delegations of the Ministries of Defense of the two countries held in Kyiv, Colonel Mykola Huben said that since July 2022, with the assistance of the Latvian side, about 350 soldiers had been trained in several areas. In particular, he added that this year the volume of training with the participation of Latvia had more than quadrupled. More than 1.5 soldiers will be trained by the end of the year.
"Mykola Huben stated that these trainings significantly improve the quality of personnel training. At the same time, the Ukrainian side proposes to take into account the combat experience gained by the Ukrainian military in the further training process," the press service writes.
According to Huben, in 2024, it is proposed to train about 96 unit commanders and 360 combat medics with the participation of Latvia.
