Latvia expects Ukraine to be invited to join NATO in 2025. Riga also supports Kyiv's accession to the EU, according to Saeima Speaker Daiga Mieriņa.

“We very much hope that next year at the NATO summit in The Hague we will be able to make a political decision to invite Ukraine to NATO. We will work towards this goal with our NATO allies,” she says.

According to the Speaker of the Saeima, Latvia also supports Ukraine's accession to the European Union, and Riga is ready to provide the necessary support and share its experience with Ukrainian colleagues.

“It is also important to ensure the long-term supply of all necessary weapons to implement the victory plan. Ukraine has the full right to self-defense, which also includes the destruction of military facilities in Russia,” Merinja states.

Ukraine's accession to NATO

During the July summit in Washington, Ukraine did not receive an invitation to join NATO. At the same time, talks about Ukraine's future in NATO do not subside.

In particular, Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans recently stated that NATO countries need to discuss the conditions under which Ukraine will receive an invitation and join the Alliance.

In turn, French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu believes that Ukraine's invitation to NATO depends on the next US administration. At the same time, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, most NATO countries support Ukraine's invitation to join the Alliance.
