Kyiv strike: Ukrainian star Vakarchuk sings for citizens in subway station

After a massive missile attack on Kyiv on August 28, Sviatoslav Vakarchuk sang directly at the Olimpiiska metro station to support the residents. The artist gathered dozens of people around him, giving them a few minutes of warmth and hope on a difficult day.
Vakarchuk sang in Kyiv metro on August 28
On the day when Kyiv and its residents were recovering from one of the heaviest attacks by Russia, Vakarchuk’s voice unexpectedly resonated at the Olimpiiska metro station.
The leader of the band Okean Elzy performed one of his most famous songs, "Obiimy" (Hug Me), the lyrics of which have become a symbol of hope for millions of Ukrainians: "When the day comes, the war will end."
This improvised performance was a spontaneous act of support for the capital’s residents, who were emotionally strained after another enemy attack.
People stopped near Vakarchuk, listened, recorded videos, and eventually started singing along.
Among those present at the station was TV host and traveler Dmytro Komarov. He stood near Vakarchuk and, together with others, helped support the atmosphere of unity.
The song "Obiimy" sounded especially touching this time. In the metro, which has often served as a shelter for Kyiv residents during the darkest moments of the war, music once again united people.
