Kyiv shelling: Missile hit hospital where soldiers undergo rehabilitation
During the massive Russian attack on Kyiv on January 2, one of the missiles hit a hospital where Ukrainian military personnel were undergoing rehabilitation. The enemy missile did not explode, but its warhead became lodged in the floor of the medical facility's first floor, according to the Command of the Medical Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"On the morning of January 2, the commander of the Medical Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Major General of the Medical Service Anatolii Kazmirchuk, received a report that during the shelling of Kyiv, a part of the downed enemy missile hit one of the medical institutions in the city where the wounded and traumatized defenders of Ukraine are undergoing rehabilitation. The commander, together with the operational group, went to the scene right away," the report says.
It was revealed that a part of the building suffered damage. Fortunately, the fragment of the enemy missile did not detonate, and no patients or staff were harmed. However, one part got stuck in the floor of the first floor, containing the active warhead.
An immediate decision was made on-site to evacuate critically injured patients to another medical facility. The remaining patients were transferred to safe areas within the medical facility and provided with care.
Sappers successfully removed the active warhead of the enemy missile. All other significant debris was cleared from the medical facility's premises. The damaged roof of the building was covered with a special tent.
Currently, the affected medical facility is operational and functioning in normal mode after the incident with the fragments of the enemy missile.
