After Russia's attack on Kyiv using Shahed-type strike drones on the night of January 1, the debris removal process has been completed. The work to address the aftermath of the shelling in the center of the capital lasted for three days, reports the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES).

"In Kyiv, rescuers have completed the debris removal from a residential building in the Pechersk district, which was damaged during the Russian attack on January 1," the emergency services said.

The SES added that, as a result of the airstrike by Russian forces in central Kyiv, two people were killed, and four others were injured. Additionally, emergency workers rescued four citizens.

"Rescuers from SES, municipal services, and volunteers worked at the site for three days. During the operations, five concrete monolithic slabs were removed and dismantled, and over 850 tons of construction debris were cleared," the SES reported.

It was also noted that a total of 382 rescuers and 117 units of SES equipment were involved in the aftermath of the enemy's attack.

Furthermore, the emergency services released photos from the site of the operations in Kyiv following the drone attack on January 1.

Russian drone attack on Kyiv on January 1

Earlier, it was reported that on the night of January 1, Russian forces launched Shahed-type strike drones towards Kyiv. Explosions were heard in the capital, and air defense systems were active in the city.

Later, the enemy had targeted the center of the capital with kamikaze drones. The explosions occurred in the Pechersk district, where fires also broke out. Specifically, the roof of the National Bank building in Kyiv was set on fire due to the Shahed strike.

As a result of the attack, seven people were injured, and two people were killed. It was revealed that the victims included the well-known Ukrainian neurobiologist Ihor Zyma and his wife.

According to the speaker of the Ukrainian parliament, Ruslan Stefanchuk, the January 1 attack also caused damage to administrative buildings of the Verkhovna Rada.
