Kursk operation reduced Russian artillery in Donbas - Zelenskyy
The Ukrainian Armed Forces' operation in the Kursk region of Russia affected the situation at the front in Ukraine. Russians have reduced the use of artillery, says the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the XX annual meeting of the Yalta European Strategy.
Zelenskyy says he cannot disclose all the details of what is happening at the front. The situation there is still difficult
“However, over the past week, the situation in the Donetsk sector, if we are talking about Pokrovsk, has been gradually leveling off. But there are different directions and different challenges,” he said.
The president emphasized that the situation at the front in Ukraine and the operation in the Kursk region were interconnected.
“For example, we can see that the number of shells used in Donbas, in the Pokrovsk direction, before the start of the Kursk operation was 1 to 12. Today it is 1 to 2.5. We understand that we are not yet leveled, we need more than the Russians if we want to stop and restore our position. However, 1 to 12 is more difficult than 1 to 2.5. I think this is a success. The success of the part of the operation called Kursk,” Zelenskyy said.
Frontline situation
The Armed Forces of Ukraine have been operating in the Kursk region for over a month. According to Zelenskyy, Russia has deployed 60,000 troops to Kursk from Ukraine during this time.
Russian president Vladimir Putin instructed the military and political leadership to liberate the Kursk region by October 1, but without withdrawing forces from key areas where Russia is waging an offensive in Ukraine.
The situation in the Pokrovsk direction in Ukraine has remained difficult in recent months. The largest number of battles is constantly recorded there.
