Russian forces carried out a mass Shahed drone attack on Kryvyi Rih overnight from January 13 to 14. As a result of the strike, residents were left without heating and water supplies, according to the head of the city’s Defense Council, Oleksandr Vilkul.

According to him, emergency power outages affected more than 45,000 consumers. In addition, over 700 buildings were left without heating, and there are also problems with water supply.

Vilkul explained that small boiler houses have switched to generators but noted that generators suitable for 6-kilovolt boiler facilities do not exist. Pumping stations of the municipal water utility have also moved to generator power, allowing water to be kept in the system, though pressure will be lower.

He also warned that the city’s high-speed tram service will not operate in the morning.

"The emergency response headquarters is already working. Wish luck to the energy workers, heating specialists, and municipal services, and thank them for their hard work in freezing conditions," Vilkul said.

Background and previous attacks on Kryvyi Rih

Late on January 13, Vilkul reported that Russian forces were carrying out a mass Shahed drone attack on an infrastructure facility in Kryvyi Rih. Shortly afterward, he again warned that the facility was under attack and urged residents to store water and charge their devices if possible.

Earlier, Russian forces carried out one of the largest combined attacks on Kryvyi Rih in Dnipropetrovsk region since the start of the full-scale war, striking multiple locations on January 7 and leaving residents without electricity and heating.
