Russia is not interested in a temporary ceasefire with Ukraine, as it would allegedly be a respite for the Ukrainian military, according to Vladimir Putin's foreign policy aide Yury Ushakov.

According to Ushakov, Russia's goal is an allegedly long-term peaceful settlement that will take into account the legitimate interests and concerns.

"Our goal is a long-term peaceful settlement, and that is what we are working toward — a resolution that accounts for our country’s legitimate interests and known concerns. Any steps that merely imitate peace efforts, I believe, are of no use to anyone in this situation," he says.

He added that Putin, today, March 13, could express more specific and meaningful assessments of the proposal for a temporary truce.

Another attempt to distort reality

Commenting on Ushakov's statement, the head of Ukraine's Center for Countering Disinformation, Andrii Kovalenko, said that Russia is once again trying to distort reality and present itself as the so-called main peacemaker.

At the same time, he noted that Ushakov's words are not an official refusal of the terrorist country to abandon the temporary ceasefire, as the decision is made by Putin.

"But Ushakov is manipulating and demonstrating that it is Russia that still wants "peace" and that the ceasefire is "not the way to peace." It is a manipulation to have a corridor of opportunities to continue the war and push his vision," Kovalenko added.

30-day truce in Ukraine

On March 11, delegations from Ukraine and the United States met in Saudi Arabia. During the talks, the parties reached a number of agreements. They also discussed Washington's proposal for a 30-day ceasefire on the front line. Kyiv, for its part, declared its readiness to take a corresponding step.

Yesterday, March 12, Donald Trump confirmed that an American delegation is traveling to Russia to discuss the issue of a temporary ceasefire.

Meanwhile, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy explained why Ukraine agreed to the idea of 30 days of silence.
