Kremlin's negotiation readiness tied to US Presidential election - Zelenskyy
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during an interview with journalists stated that the Kremlin's readiness to negotiate an end to the war against Ukraine hinges on several factors, with the primary one being the stance of the future US president.
"In my opinion, firstly, it depends on the elections in the United States. I think they (Russia) will be watching the policy of the US on this matter. The U.S. will demonstrate its policy very quickly after the elections, in my opinion," Zelenskyy said.
He added that he had gathered this information during meetings with US presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.
"I believe they (Russia) won’t wait until January: they won’t be able to act on some things due to their powers, but they will be able to take action on others," Zelenskyy explained.
According to Zelenskyy, other key issues are energy and free navigation. "If we achieve progress on these two points, it will also signal whether Russia is ready to end the war," the president added.
As a third point, Zelenskyy highlighted Ukraine's work with several countries from the Global South.
"We are engaged in this work. We have meetings. Different countries, different contacts. Today, Sibiha went to Türkiye. Tomorrow, Rustem Umerov and Andriy Yermak will travel to another Global South country," he said.
"The Kursk operation has had a major impact on everyone, especially on the players from the Global South. For them, it's a serious shock and signal about the state of Russia's army — that over the course of several months, their army has been unable to push Ukrainian forces out of Russian territory," the president stated.
