Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on the prospect of a peace deal with Ukraine, as expressed by US President Donald Trump. According to him, Russia remains open to finding a peaceful settlement, reports TASS.

On Sunday, US President Donald Trump expressed hope that Russia and Ukraine would be able to reach a ceasefire agreement in the coming days.

In response to these words, Peskov confirmed that Moscow allegedly “remains open to finding a peaceful settlement” and continues to maintain relevant contacts with the American side.

“I wouldn't like to give any comments now, especially regarding the timeframe. President Putin and the Russian side remain open to finding a peaceful settlement. They also continue to work with the American side. And, of course, we hope that this work will yield results,” Peskov said.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said earlier that the United States may abandon its role as a mediator between Ukraine and Russia if there are no signs of a “quick deal” between the two warring countries in the coming days.

Trump then confirmed that his country may refuse to participate in peace talks on Ukraine. Such a scenario is possible if one of the parties to the conflict impedes peace process.

Bloomberg wrote that the US peace proposal stipulates that Russia will retain control over the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
