The United States may halt its involvement in negotiations to end Russia's war against Ukraine if one of the parties obstructs peace, stated US President Donald Trump.

The American leader was asked to comment on US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s statement that the US would exit the negotiation process regarding Ukraine if there are no signs in the coming days that an agreement between Kyiv and Moscow is possible in the coming weeks.

"No specific number of days, but quickly, we want to get it done," he said.

According to him, 2,500 people are dying every week in the brutal battle. Therefore, the US "ideally" plans to stop this.

"Now if, for some reason, one of the two parties makes it very difficult. We're just going to say, 'You're foolish, you're fools, you're horrible people,' and we're going to just take a pass. But hopefully we won't have to do that. And Marco is right in saying it, we want to see it end," Trump stated.

He also added that many people are dying every day while "they play games." And the US is not going to take that.

At the same time, Trump said there is a "good chance" to resolve the issue, and he was not willing to talk about the US pulling out of the peace negotiations.

What Rubio’s statement means

Political analyst Oleh Saakian said in a comment to RBC-Ukraine’s YouTube channel that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, with his ultimatum to Ukraine and Russia, is raising the stakes towards Moscow.

In his opinion, the US wants a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia now, as it would be a deal imposed from a position of strength.
