Kremlin reacts to Trump’s ultimatum: Let’s wait for Putin's decision

Russia commented on US President Donald Trump's threats to impose tough sanctions against Moscow if a peace agreement with Ukraine is not reached within 50 days, reports the TASS agency.
The press secretary of Russian president Vladimir Putin, Dmitry Peskov, acknowledged the seriousness of the American leader’s statements but noted that the Kremlin’s official position would be announced later.
“The statement of the US president is quite serious. Something in it is addressed personally to President Putin. We, of course, need some time to analyze what was said in Washington. And if and when President Putin deems it necessary, he will definitely comment on it. I wouldn’t want to get ahead of myself, so let’s wait for Putin’s decision on whether he will comment himself,” Peskov said.
The Kremlin also criticized Kyiv’s reaction to Trump’s initiative. Peskov stated that “the Ukrainian authorities are not perceiving this situation as a chance for peace.”
Putin’s press secretary also reported that Moscow is allegedly waiting for proposals from Kyiv regarding a third round of peace talks.
Trump’s changing approach to Russia
Donald Trump said yesterday he was disappointed in Vladimir Putin over the lack of progress in peace negotiations on the war in Ukraine.
He threatened that if the parties do not reach an agreement within 50 days, the US will impose new secondary tariffs.
Earlier, Trump said that Putin was feeding him complete nonsense, adding that he is very seriously considering the sanctions bill proposed by Senator Lindsey Graham. It provides for the 500% import tariffs for countries purchasing Russian oil, gasoline, or petrochemicals.
Trump also promised Putin a surprise.
