Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Moscow has declared that it expects clear guarantees from the West that the upcoming meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin will yield a “concrete result.”
“We also need guarantees that the meeting between the presidents will produce a concrete result. We are ready for this result,” said the Russian minister.
Lavrov claimed that during the previous meeting between Trump and Putin in Anchorage, the Russian side allegedly agreed to a number of initiatives presented by US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff during his visit to Moscow.
However, Lavrov did not specify what initiatives were discussed.
According to him, Moscow hopes that Donald Trump is interested in achieving long-term peace, and not in “creating preconditions for the further supply of weapons to Ukraine.”
Putin will not meet with Trump
The idea of holding a second meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin lasted less than a week. After a phone call with the Russian dictator, Trump stated that they could meet in Budapest in about two weeks.
However, it later became known that preparations for the summit had been suspended, and it is not planned to take place in the near future.
Trump himself confirmed this, noting that he does not see the point in spending time on such a meeting.
In addition, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Moscow would not agree to a ceasefire with Ukraine until the so-called “root causes of the conflict” are resolved.
Still, Trump later said he was ready to meet with the Kremlin leader again, but only if he is confident that a deal to end the war in Ukraine could be reached.
Yesterday, Putin’s administration declared that Russia was allegedly ready to accept the US concept for ending the war in Ukraine and intends to move forward on the basis proposed by Washington.
