Russian leader Vladimir Putin received praise for Russia’s "just struggle" from Kim Jong Un in a birthday letter, Sky News reports.

The North Korean leader praised Putin's leadership qualities and said the alliance between the two countries will continue to develop.

He also expressed support for Russia's "just struggle" for national sovereignty.

The outlet recalled that during Putin’s 2024 visit to North Korea, a mutual defense pact was signed. Since then, the two leaders have met several times.

Earlier, North Korea confirmed its readiness to provide military support to Russia if needed.

Kim Jong Un said that if Pyongyang can help Russia in any way, it will do so.

It is reported that after a two-month pause, Russia may have resumed covert weapons shipments from North Korea. Fresh satellite images recorded the movement of the Russian ship Lady R, previously linked to illicit transfers from the DPRK.

Earlier, the North Korean leader announced plans to expand the country's nuclear forces, unveiling development of a so-called shield and sword program viewed in Pyongyang as a core state policy.

RBC-Ukraine also reported that the United States imposed additional sanctions on the authorities of North Korea and Myanmar, accusing them of cooperation and profiting from such ties.

Pyongyang is directing funds to programs for developing weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missiles.
