In the right-bank part of the Kherson region, sappers have cleared an additional 1,030 hectares of land, according to a post by the Kherson Regional Military Administration.

“Over a thousand more hectares of the right-bank Kherson region have been cleared of Russian explosives,” the Kherson Regional Military Administration post states.

A total of 1,481 explosive devices were discovered.

Over the past week, sappers have been working on inspecting territories, fields, bodies of water, facilities, and forested areas.

In total, 71.1% of the right-bank territory of the Kherson region has already been cleared of mines.

Demining in Kherson began in March 2023, before the start of the sowing campaign. At that time, 500 explosive ordnance disposal specialists from private firms of international partners arrived in the region.

Online certification of sappers

As previously reported by RBC-Ukraine, an online certification system for demining operators has been launched. Almost all stages can be completed remotely through the Diia app.

Currently, according to the government, there are 125 registered operators in Ukraine, of whom only 8 are foreign.

Completely clearing Ukraine of mines using traditional methods could take a hundred years. However, innovative technologies are expected to significantly accelerate this process, according to the UN.

Meanwhile, the European Union has launched a new humanitarian demining program for Ukraine, providing funding of 2 million euros.
