Russian strikes on Kharkiv

Russian forces target Kharkiv and nearby communities with attack drones almost daily. During a recent strike on August 16, one of the drones hit a building of the National Pharmaceutical University in the Slobidskyi district of the city.

Earlier, the mayor of Kharkiv reported that a Shahed drone struck a building near the city center in broad daylight. The building serves as an educational institution and is also a historic structure.

The university’s roof caught fire after the drone strike, but firefighters managed to contain the blaze, and work is ongoing.

In the early hours of August 18, Kharkiv faced another massive attack with kamikaze drones. The first explosions were reported around 4:48 a.m. According to Mayor Ihor Terekhov, one of the Shaheds hit a multi-story building in the Industrialnyi district, causing a large-scale fire across multiple floors in two entrances simultaneously.

Due to collapsing floors, people could have been trapped under the debris, and rescue teams were on site. Among the injured were adults and children: 20 people were hurt, including six children aged 1 to 17.
