Kazakhstan has called on Ukraine to stop its attacks on the Black Sea oil terminal in Novorossiysk after a series of drone strikes halted exports and severely damaged loading infrastructure, according to the press service of Kazakhstan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Caspian Pipeline Consortium, whose shareholders include Russia, Kazakhstan, and the US, said it had suspended operations after one of the berths at its Russian Black Sea terminal was significantly damaged by a Ukrainian naval drone strike.
Kazakhstan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs claims these drone attacks were already the third on the facility, which it describes as "a purely civilian site whose operation is protected by international law."
The ministry stated that Kazakhstan "expresses its protest regarding yet another deliberate attack on the critical infrastructure of the international Caspian Pipeline Consortium in the waters of the port of Novorossiysk."
"We view what happened as an action that harms the bilateral relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and Ukraine, and we expect the Ukrainian side to take effective measures to prevent similar incidents in the future," the ministry said.
Attack on the Novorossiysk terminal
As a reminder, on the morning of November 29 it became known that naval drones had attacked and completely disabled the loading unit of the CPC Marine Terminal in Novorossiysk. The berth sustained heavy damage, and oil shipments have been halted.
Following the strike on the terminal, Kazakhstan began urgently searching for alternative routes to redirect its oil exports. Currently, Kazakh oil is exported through Novorossiysk.
