Polish President Karol Nawrocki, during a visit to Prague, stated that he is expecting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Warsaw and expressed hope that he will accept the invitation, according to the Polish edition Wiadomosci.

At a press conference on Monday, November 24, following a meeting in Prague between the presidents of Poland and Czechia, they were asked about the US peace plan for Ukraine.

Czech President Petr Pavel noted that initial assessments of the plan were not entirely positive, but added that he welcomes the ongoing negotiations in Geneva.

“I am very glad that Europe is involved in this. It would be very difficult to consider achieving peace in Ukraine, ending the war, without the participation of Europe, or at least its key countries representing European interests,” Petr Pavel noted.

Karol Nawrocki added that he sees Russia as a state that does not honor its agreements and therefore poses a threat to any potential peace that could be signed.

“There is no doubt that it is in the interest of European countries, including Poland, to aim for lasting peace, not a peace that would allow Russia to mobilize its resources and start another war in the coming years or decades,” he said.

Nawrocki expressed the belief that the only person in the world capable of forcing Russia to agree to peace is US President Donald Trump.

Possible international visits

The presidents of Poland and Czechia were also asked about a potential joint visit to Ukraine.

“We haven’t discussed this at all, but if something like that were planned in the future, I certainly wouldn’t be against it,” Petr Pavel said.

“I am expecting President Zelenskyy in Warsaw and hope that President Zelenskyy will accept my invitation,” Nawrocki added.

Poland’s requirement for a meeting with Zelenskyy

At the end of October, Marcin Przychodacz, head of the International Policy Department in the office of the President of Poland, stated that if Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wants to meet with Polish President Karol Nawrocki, he must come to Warsaw himself.

When asked whether, given Zelenskyy’s greater political experience, Nawrocki should visit the Ukrainian president first, Przychodacz replied: “There are no such rules in diplomacy.”

Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that Polish President Karol Nawrocki criticized the US peace plan. He noted that any peace plans must first be approved by Ukraine and must not reward the aggressor.

Nawrocki added that all proposals to end Russia’s war against Ukraine must take into account one key fact: Russia is a state that does not honor agreements and does not keep its word.
