American rapper Kanye West, also known as Ye, has faced consequences for his antisemitic remarks. The United Kingdom has banned the artist from entering the country, leading to the cancellation of a festival appearance featuring him, BBC reports.

Kanye West banned from entering the UK: what we know

The rapper was set to headline the Wireless festival in London in July. However, the UK government denied him entry. The decision came amid outrage from both government ministers and leaders of the Jewish community.

West reportedly applied for entry on Monday, April 6, using an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA), but his application was blocked. The decision was justified on the grounds that "his presence would not be conducive to the public good."

Earlier, criticism had already emerged online regarding the rapper’s planned performance at the festival due to his past antisemitic and pro-Nazi statements. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer was among those who criticized the appearance. In a post on April 7, he once again strongly expressed support for the Jewish community.

"Kanye West should never have been invited to headline Wireless. This government stands firmly with the Jewish community, and we will not stop in our fight to confront and defeat the poison of antisemitism. We will always take the action necessary to protect the public and uphold our values," Keir Starmer wrote.

Wireless festival canceled

After Kanye was banned from entering the United Kingdom, it became known that the festival where he was set to headline had been canceled.

"The Home Office has withdrawn Ye's ETA, denying him entry into the United Kingdom. As a result, Wireless Festival is cancelled, and refunds will be issued to all ticket holders," the statement says.

They also noted that consultations with "multiple stakeholders" had been held before inviting Ye, and at that time, there were reportedly no concerns. The organizers also condemned any manifestations of antisemitism.

"As Ye said today, he acknowledges that words alone are not enough, and in spite of this still hopes to be given the opportunity to begin a conversation with the Jewish community in the UK," the statement said.

Earlier, West had expressed a desire to meet with representatives of the Jewish community in the UK, saying he wanted to "show change" through his actions.

What is known about the rapper’s controversial statements

Between 2022 and 2025, Kanye repeatedly shocked the public with a series of social media posts in which he, among other things, called himself a Nazi, a racist, and expressed admiration for Hitler.

In addition, under the Yeezy brand, he created merchandise featuring swastikas and released a song titled Heil Hitler.

Only in January this year did the artist publicly apologize for his behavior for the first time. He published an open letter in The Wall Street Journal, where he spoke about his mental health issues.

He explained his controversial statements as a manic episode linked to bipolar disorder. He also stressed that he does not consider himself a racist or an antisemite.
