Kamala Harris introduces plan to limit childcare costs to 7% of family income
Vice President Kamala Harris announced Tuesday at an event in Philadelphia with the National Association of Black Journalists that she intends to limit childcare costs for working families to 7% of their income. This is another attempt by Harris to convince her voters of her commitment to addressing high prices and minimizing economic distress, according to Bloomberg.
“My plan is that no family, no working family, should pay more than 7% of their income in childcare,” she said.
Harris prioritizes the financial aspects of child care, as increasingly working families have to choose between being able to work or being able to afford to have child care. She stated that “when you talk about the return on that investment, allowing people to work, allowing people to pursue their dreams in terms of how they want to work, where they want to work, benefits us all.”
Likewise, the Vice President says more needs to be done to increase wages for childcare and housekeeping providers. She also believes it is essential to ensure that field members are paid the wages they deserve based on the dignity of their work.
Harris’s economic plan
During a Presidential debate with Trump, Kamala Harris previously offered a variety of measures, including increasing the small business tax deduction, a down payment assistance program for first-time homebuyers, and suggested measures to reduce grocery and rent expenses.
In addition, Harris declared that she supports the elimination of tip taxes and has pledged to end the practice of sub-minimum wages for tipped employees.
