Kamala Harris accepts Democratic nomination for president - CNN
US Vice President Kamala Harris has officially agreed to run for president as the Democratic nominee, reports CNN.
This announcement came on the final day of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, August 22.
"On behalf of the people, on behalf of every American, regardless of party, race, gender or the language a grandmother speaks, on behalf of my mother and everyone who has ever set out on their own unlikely journey, on behalf of Americans, like the people I grew up with, people who work hard, chase their dreams and look out for one another, on behalf of everyone whose story could only be written in the greatest nation on Earth, I accept your nomination to be President of US," Harris said as the crowd erupted in applause.
Additionally, during her speech, the Vice President addressed Republicans who may be uncertain about voting for her, promising to be a president for all Americans.
CNN noted that Harris is the first Black woman and the first Asian American to head the ticket of a major party. If elected, she would become the first female and Indian American president.

The US presidential election is scheduled for November 5 this year. The newly elected President and Vice President will assume office on January 20, 2025, following their inauguration.
Kamala Harris's main rival for the presidency is former President Donald Trump, who is currently the Republican candidate.
