The head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, calls for stronger support for Ukraine. Otherwise, according to Kallas, Europe will have to learn the Russian language, The Guardian reports.

The EU's chief diplomat believes that the EU is making its contribution to supporting Ukraine, and not least because "Ukraine is Europe’s first line of defence," and Russia responds only to strength.

She emphasizes the importance of the 18th package of sanctions proposed by the EU, stating that "every sanction weakens Russia’s ability to fight this war."

Kallas emphasized that Europe must do more for the security of Ukraine and its own.

"If we don’t help Ukraine further, we should all start learning Russian. The stronger Ukraine is on the battlefield today, the stronger they will be around the negotiation table when Russia finally is ready to talk," she said, quoting NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

EU aid for Ukraine

EU countries have already imposed 17 packages of sanctions against Russia since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Work is underway on a new package of sanctions, but Hungary and Slovakia have already expressed their opposition.

Earlier, the European Commission presented the 18th package of sanctions against Russia. Its list includes lowering the price cap on Russian crude oil from $60 to $45 per barrel.

Additionally, EU countries are providing military assistance to Ukraine. Following Donald Trump's return to the presidency of the United States, the role of Europe in supporting Ukraine has increased.
