Benfica coach José Mourinho has found himself at the center of a financial scandal due to his greed and lack of integrity, according to Şok Gazetesi. The coach of the club where Ukrainians Heorhii Sudakov and Anatolii Trubin play failed to pay for his stay at a five-star hotel after being dismissed from Fenerbahçe.

What is known about José Mourinho's scandal

After arriving in Istanbul in June 2024, Mourinho settled at the luxurious Four Seasons Hotel, located in a former 19th-century Ottoman palace on the Bosphorus waterfront.

The Portuguese coach refused to rent an apartment or a house and instead lived at the hotel (in one of the most expensive rooms, a luxury suite) throughout his entire 16-month stay at the club, until he was dismissed following Fenerbahçe's disgraceful performances.

It later turned out that after Mourinho left Turkey, the hotel bill remained unpaid, amounting to around 747,000 euros.

Who will pay this astronomical bill remains unclear. Turkish media report that Fenerbahçe is in no hurry to cover Mourinho's debt out of its own pocket.

Especially since Mourinho is persistently demanding about 15 million euros in compensation from Fenerbahçe for the early termination of his contract, which was valid until 2026.

Turkish fans have already expressed outrage over this "dishonorable act" by the coach, calling him a "shameless miser."

This isn't the first time José Mourinho has had his employers cover the cost of his luxury accommodations.

For example, during his time at Manchester United (from 2016 to 2018), his hotel bill for 895 days of living amounted to more than 600,000 euros.
