US Vice President JD Vance criticized the assistance the United States provides to Ukraine, according to a livestream from the White House on YouTube.

"We help older Americans in retirement, including by ending taxes on Social Security, because we believe in honoring your father and mother rather than shipping all of their money off to Ukraine," he said during a speech.

Security guarantees for Ukraine

In late February, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a public dispute with US President Donald Trump during his visit to the White House. After that, Trump claimed that Zelenskyy allegedly did not want to end the war with Russia.

Against this backdrop, the United States decided to suspend weapons supplies to Ukraine. Intelligence sharing between the two countries was also temporarily halted.

The difficult situation was eased after talks between Ukrainian and American officials in Saudi Arabia. Following those discussions, Washington decided to resume arms deliveries and intelligence cooperation.

At the same time, later in the summer, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt did not rule out the possibility that the United States could provide air support to Ukraine as part of its security guarantees. She clarified that Trump rules out only the presence of US troops on Ukrainian territory.

US peace plan for Ukraine

In November, the Trump administration proposed a peace plan aimed at ending the war in Ukraine. Initially, the document contained 28 points, most of which did not align with Ukraine’s interests and instead favored Russia. The plan has since been revised.

Currently, the US peace plan envisages a framework agreement, security guarantees, and a document on Ukraine’s post-war recovery.

Recently, Zelenskyy said the agreement is expected to be divided into five documents, and that once Kyiv is as close as possible to reaching a deal with Russia, he will meet with Trump.
