Japan unveils new financial aid for Ukraine: What it will fund

Ukraine has received another $51.5 million from the Japanese government to develop its healthcare system, according to Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi.
The prime minister said Tokyo provided the funds under the World Bank's THRIVE project.
The money is earmarked for developing Ukraine's healthcare system.
"The funds have already been transferred to the state budget and will be used to improve the efficiency of the Medical Guarantees Program and strengthen the institutional capacity of the National Health Service of Ukraine," Koretskyi stressed.
The prime minister noted that the total funding for the THRIVE program amounts to $1.2 billion.
He also said that Ukraine has already received $449 million of that amount.
"We are grateful to the government of Japan and the World Bank for their continued support for Ukraine, their contribution to our financial resilience and the development of our healthcare system," Koretskyi concluded.
THRIVE program details
This is a World Bank program for Ukraine called Transforming Healthcare through Reform and Investments in Efficiency, or THRIVE.
Its main goal is to make public healthcare spending more efficient, including by improving the financing of medical services under the Medical Guarantees Program and strengthening the capacity of the National Health Service of Ukraine.
THRIVE funds are not simply allocated to healthcare in general, but aim to reform how the government finances and organizes the healthcare system.
As previously reported, Ukraine had received another $841 million from the World Bank.
The media also reported that Minister Koretskyi made a new statement on frozen Russian assets.
