Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi made an unexpected diplomatic gesture to Donald Trump in the spirit of Shinzo Abe, after which Trump called her a true leader and noted her determination to strengthen Japan's defense, AP reports.
During an official meeting, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, who is considered in Japan to be the political successor to the assassinated Shinzo Abe, repeated her predecessor's style by organizing a lavish reception and an audience with the Japanese emperor for US President Donald Trump.
One of the highlights of the meeting was a symbolic gift intended to emphasize the friendly and strategic relations between the countries.
Takaichi presented Trump with a golf club that belonged to Shinzo Abe, as well as a golf bag autographed by Japanese champion Hideki Matsuyama.
According to political experts, this gift emphasized Takaichi's political continuity and her desire to continue her predecessor's foreign policy course.
US President Donald Trump highly appreciated the gift and the reception. In response to the Prime Minister's gesture, he called Takaichi a true leader and noted her determination to strengthen Japan's defense capabilities.
