Italian Prime Minister is going to China. Media name purpose of her visit
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is planning a trip to China. The main purpose of the trip is to reset relations between the two countries, Bloomberg reports.
Meloni is seeking to reset her country's relations with China after Rome withdrew from Beijing's controversial global investment initiative, Belt and Road, last year.
According to an anonymous source, the Italian prime minister will travel to China in the coming months. It is worth noting that on Friday, April 12, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani met with Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao in Verona, Italy.
"We want to start a new phase in the relations between Italy and China and invest in the bilateral partnership," the foreign minister said before the meeting with Wentao.
The move could be a political victory for Meloni if she manages to maintain trade ties with China, which are important to the business community, and also keeps her promise to her Brothers of Italy party, which wanted Rome to withdraw from the BRI.
Last year, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni tried to withdraw the country from its close relations with China.
