Italian Foreign Ministry rejects Putin's 'free grain' as crisis solution
The decision of Russia to supply grain to Africa for free as a way to resolve the crisis resulting from its withdrawal from the "grain deal" is not seen as the right solution, according to Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, cited by ANSA.
"We are pushing for dialogue on the grain corridor to be maintained. We support Turkey's diplomatic action," he said.
The minister emphasized that it is mainly African nations that suffer the consequences of suspending the "grain deal."
"The path proposed by Putin, i.e. 'we will send you the grain for free' is not the right path. Then if we do not return to the agreement, grain prices will rise," Tajani added.
Russia's withdrawal from the "grain deal"
Russia's withdrawal from the "grain deal" came after alleging that its demands were not met. Subsequently, Russian forces began shelling Odesa, targeting the port and port infrastructure.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposed that Türkiye and the United Nations continue the "grain initiative" in a trilateral format.
Later, dictator Putin attempted to bribe Africa and promised some countries free grain.
