The war between Russia and Ukraine will end when a just peace is achieved. Ukrainians need to hold on until the end, according to a statement by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during a meeting with cadets and students from 18 military educational institutions.

"When will the war end? It will end when Ukraine is able to secure a just peace for itself. There's a lot to it. People have different views on this. First and foremost – a just peace, one that ensures we never forget those who are no longer with us, those who gave their lives," emphasized the president.

He clarified that an essential condition for peace is fair accountability for everything the aggressor country has done. When this is achieved, the war will end.

The head of state noted that transitioning to a diplomatic resolution of the conflict in one format or another will not mean the final end of the war. This is because Ukraine already experienced a frozen conflict following the occupation of Crimea and parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. This situation led to the full-scale invasion.

"This shows that the war was not ended. It is very important for us this time to hold on until the end," explained Zelenskyy.

Conditions for Ukraine's return to the negotiation table

Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine needs security guarantees before returning to the negotiation table.

He added that without any guarantees for Ukraine, Russia would have the opportunity to prepare for a renewed invasion.
