Sometimes, even after you've just fed your dog, it still begs you for food. There are several main reasons for this behavior, according to the PetMD website.

Why your dog is always hungry

If your dog constantly wants to eat but doesn't display any other symptoms, it's recommended to visit the veterinarian.

Dogs that are always hungry also show the following symptoms:

  • Increased thirst and urination
  • Vomiting or diarrhea
  • Changes in weight (gain or loss)
  • Changes in body shape, such as a distended abdomen and muscle wasting
  • Eating non-food items

There isn't always a clear reason why a dog may be obsessed with food. It could be due to a psychological issue such as stress or a medical problem.

Veterinarians have identified some of the most common reasons for increased appetite in dogs:

  • Psychological problems such as anxiety or stress
  • Behavior due to poor nutrition
  • Aging process (as dogs age, they may develop a greater appetite)
  • Medications
  • Metabolic disorders
  • Parasites/infections that interfere with nutrient absorption

This is how a dog's greediness can manifest

The most common reason for a dog to gulp down food quickly is simple greediness. If there are other dogs or cats in the household, you should pay attention to their relationship during meals.

In dogs, food greediness mainly manifests from two sides: fear that someone will take away their food and a desire to take away food from a neighbor. In this case, try to feed the animals separately, in different rooms or through a partition, so that they don't see each other.

Sometimes the owners can be the reason for the dog's haste in eating. The pet may have experienced a situation where the owner was late at work, and the animal felt fear and hunger. This is a stressful situation for the dog that could lead to such behavior.
