Israel warns US about 'limited ground operations' in Lebanon - State Department
Israel has provided the US with information regarding the conduct of limited ground operations in Lebanon. These operations are aimed at Hezbollah's infrastructure, states US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller.
"This is what they have informed us that they are currently conducting, which are limited operations targeting Hezbollah infrastructure near the border," Miller stated during a conversation with journalists.
He was asked for clarification on whether this specifically refers to limited ground operations.
"That is our understanding," Miller confirmed.
What preceded it
In recent weeks, the war between Israel and Hezbollah has intensified. In particular, the Israel Defense Forces carried out several precise strikes on Beirut. The leader of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, and the head of Hezbollah's operational unit and commander of the elite Radwan forces, Ibrahim Akil, were eliminated.
The situation escalated after Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant announced a new phase of the war and a shift in focus to the north, where Hezbollah militants pose a threat to the country.
Today, September 30, The Wall Street Journal reported that an invasion of Israeli forces into Lebanese territory could begin as early as this week.
At the same time, Israel has established a closed military zone in the area of three settlements located along the border with Lebanon.
