Israeli military forces attacked the capital of Lebanon, Beirut, today, September 27. The target of the strike was the main headquarters of Hezbollah, states the IDF spokesperson Admiral Daniel Hagari.
According to him, the main headquarters of the militants was built adjacent to civilian buildings in the Dahiyeh area, which is a stronghold of Hezbollah in Beirut.
He clarified that there are currently no changes to the instructions for Israeli civilians.
Hagari has not disclosed the detailed consequences of the strike yet.
Meanwhile, images and videos are already being shared online, showing thick smoke rising over Beirut. This is only the fourth strike by Israel on Beirut since the beginning of the war.
What preceded the strike
During such attacks on the capital of Lebanon, Israel typically targets high-ranking commanders of Hamas and Hezbollah.
The last strike on Beirut occurred on September 20. In that attack, the head of the Hezbollah Operational Unit and commander of the elite Radwan forces, Ibrahim Aqil, was eliminated.
Israel also took out other Radwan commanders during the attack, which happened while the militants were holding a meeting.
