The Israeli military announced on Wednesday that their fighter jets have targeted Hezbollah infrastructure north of Baalbek in eastern Lebanon amid concerns that heightened exchanges between Israel and Hezbollah could further escalate tensions, according to Reuters and the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).

"Earlier this evening, IAF fighter jets struck significant Hezbollah terrorist infrastructure used by the terrorist organization's aerial defense system in northern Baalbek," the statement said. Additionally, IDF soldiers recently conducted a strike to eliminate an immediate threat.

Hezbollah, translated from Arabic as "Party of Allah", a quote from the Koran, is a Lebanese Shiite organization combining militant and political functions.

Established in 1982 during the Lebanese Civil War by a group of radical Shiite clerics with financial backing from Iran, the organization's aim has been to resist Israeli occupation of parts of Lebanon through armed means.

Previously, we reported that the IDF, using military aviation, targeted two Hezbollah terrorist organization bases in Lebanon.

Also, the Israeli Defense Forces struck a large Hezbollah weapons manufacturing facility in Lebanon.
