Israel's Arrow 3 Aerial Defense System intercepted a missile over the Red Sea that was heading towards the country from Yemen, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

In a statement from the Israeli military, it was reported that the Arrow 3 Aerial Defense System successfully intercepted a surface-to-surface missile that had approached the country from the Red Sea.

"A short while ago, the IDF Aerial Defense Array successfully intercepted a surface-to-surface missile that approached Israeli territory from Yemen using the Arrow 3 Aerial Defense System," the Israeli military said.

The statement also noted that the missile did not hit Israeli territory.

"Rocket and missile sirens were sounded following the possibility of falling shrapnel. The incident has concluded," the IDF said.

Houthi strike and Israel's response

On July 19, it was reported that Yemeni Houthi rebels launched a drone attack on Israel, targeting Tel Aviv. The attack resulted in one death and eight injuries. According to Israeli emergency services, the explosion occurred near Tel Aviv's waterfront and the US embassy.

The following day, July 20, Israel, the US and the UK conducted joint strikes on the Yemeni port of Hodeidah.

Later, the Israeli Defense Forces stated that the strike on the Houthi-controlled port aimed to disrupt the rebels' import of Iranian weapons and inflict financial damage on the Iran-backed group.

It is notable that since November last year, the Yemeni Houthis, supported by Iran, have been targeting ships in the Red Sea region. They describe their attacks on commercial shipping as a sign of solidarity with Hamas in Gaza, where the Israeli military is conducting operations against terrorists in response to a large-scale attack in October 2023.

Additionally, following the series of strikes on the port of Al Hudaydah on July 20, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a warning to Israel's enemies.
