Israel confirms elimination of new Hezbollah leader
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that an airstrike on Beirut on October 4 killed the head of Hezbollah's Executive Council, Hashem Safieddine, who was likely to succeed Hassan Nasrallah following his elimination, according to the Times of Israel.
Hezbollah's head of intelligence, Hussein Ali Hazima, was killed alongside Safieddine.
The target of the strike was Hezbollah’s underground intelligence headquarters in Beirut.
According to the IDF, over 25 members of Hezbollah's intelligence unit, including senior commanders, were inside the headquarters at the time of the strike.
On the night of October 4, Israeli aircraft struck Beirut. The likely target was Hezbollah’s new leader, Hashem Safieddine.
Elimination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah
On September 27, the IDF launched a strike on Hezbollah’s central headquarters, which was located underground beneath a residential building in the area of Dahieh in Beirut. Nasrallah was killed along with Hezbollah’s southern front commander, Ali Karki, and other commanders of the group.
It is also noteworthy that, in recent days, Israel eliminated Hamas’ new leader, Yahya Sinwar, who took over after the killing of longtime leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
