Representatives of Lebanon and Israel have agreed to introduce a ceasefire following talks held in the United States. Both sides also condemned Iran’s aggression against countries in the region, according to the US State Department.
According to the statement, Lebanese and Israeli representatives held talks in Washington on June 3.
"As a result of the US-led negotiations, Israel and Lebanon agreed to the implementation of a ceasefire," the statement said.
The press release also notes that the agreement includes "complete cessation of Hizbollah fire and the evacuation of all Hizbollah operatives from the South Litani Sector."
Lebanon has committed to strengthening the capabilities of the Lebanese Armed Forces with US support in order to establish effective control over the entire country.
Negotiation context
The ceasefire remains fragile due to ongoing hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah. The group refuses to disarm and continues to carry out drone attacks on Israeli military targets.
The Israeli army has recently begun forming a micro air force. These drone control units are expected to take part in operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
