Ireland to provide Ukraine with radar systems to strengthen air defense

Ireland will provide Ukraine with radar systems to strengthen its air defense. This decision was part of the government's commitment, The Irish Times reports.
Ireland intends to donate a significant portion of its outdated air defense systems, including Giraffe Mark IV radars, to protect Ukrainian cities and towns. This step is part of the government's commitment to provide Ukraine with non-lethal military equipment and training.
With the war in Ukraine now in its fourth year, Ireland has taken this decision as part of its support.
Previously, the country had participated in EU contributions to Kyiv, but their contribution was limited to non-lethal purposes, such as the supply of diesel fuel for artillery and demining.
According to the Irish Times, the transfer of defense systems is aimed at demonstrating unwavering solidarity with Ukraine, especially in the face of pressure on the Ukrainian leadership from the Donald Trump administration, which is seeking to negotiate with Russia to end the war.
“Continued support for Ukraine was “a necessity and not a choice,” said EU Foreign Minister Simon Harris.
Ireland is expected to reaffirm its support for Ukraine at international meetings in Brussels and the United Nations in New York on Monday, the third anniversary of the full-scale Russian invasion.
Ukraine needs support and supplies of modern weapons, as well as the lifting of restrictions on their use.
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda noted that recent events cause more concern than clarity, but called for not falling into disappointment, but looking for ways to act effectively in the current circumstances.
