Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated after negotiations with the US that sanctions on Iranian oil had been lifted and some frozen assets abroad had been returned, reports CNN.

In a post on X, Araghchi also said that a large-scale reconstruction and development plan had been initiated for Iran.

No details were provided in the post regarding the frozen assets or the reconstruction plan. CNN has reached out to the White House for comment on the negotiations.

Earlier, according to the semi-official Iranian news agency Fars, Hossein Ghorbanzadeh, an economic expert on the Iranian delegation, stated that the draft agreement on the temporary suspension of US sanctions on Iranian oil and petroleum products had been finalized.

Araghchi said that the first real test would be the establishment of a Lebanese de-confliction group, the creation of which, according to Qatari and Pakistani mediators, had been agreed upon between the US and Iran. The group is to help ensure the cessation of military operations in Lebanon, where the Hezbollah group is located.

Negotiations and the latest developments

Negotiations between Iran and the US took place in Switzerland on June 21. US President Donald Trump complicated the negotiation process between the parties with his sharp statements regarding Iran, stating that he could resume attacks.

These words from the president followed Iran's renewed blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, and the conflict in Lebanon is also hindering the arrival of peace.

The issue of Iran's nuclear program is, if not the most important, then certainly a key one for Washington. On the eve of the talks, Trump advised Iranian President Pezeshkian to watch his language following his statements about uranium enrichment — otherwise, the US would seize part of the country.
