Iran has refused to continue nuclear negotiations with the US until the proposed interim agreement is fully implemented. Furthermore, Tehran has officially declared its exclusive sovereignty over the strategic Strait of Hormuz, according to The Jerusalem Post.

There will be no dialogue, at least for now, Tehran states. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi made it clear that discussion of the nuclear program is only possible at a later stage.

First, Washington must fulfill the terms of the interim agreement. This document is key to Tehran. The memorandum's text may still change, as the parties are working out the details.

The interim agreement provides for:

  • Restoration of the status of the Strait of Hormuz;
  • Cessation of armed conflicts on several fronts;
  • Signing of a final memorandum of understanding.

Return to the previous status is impossible, Araghchi says. The Strait is now under full control of Tehran and Oman. The head of Iran's Foreign Ministry stated that management of this waterway will not return to the pre-war era.

The top Iranian diplomat is also confident in the effectiveness of the conflict. He called his country the main beneficiary of the confrontation.

"Iran is the winner of the war with the US," Abbas Araghchi emphasized.

Context of Tehran's statement

According to Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the US and Iran have agreed on the text of a peace agreement. He believes that an end to the war is very close.

Meanwhile, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has threatened to seize Iran's frozen assets. He named the condition under which this would happen.
